KANSAS CITY, Missouri – O metrô de Kansas City tem conexão com Last Chance U: Basketball.

Em Last Chance U: Basketball, um documentário da Netflix sobre basquete universitário júnior, o programa apresenta o East Los Angeles College e seu excêntrico grupo de jogadores liderados pelo técnico John Mosley e um de seus principais assistentes em Leavenworth, Kansas, o nativo Robert Robinson.

Robinson nasceu em Kansas City, Missouri, e foi criado em Leavenworth antes de se mudar para a Califórnia aos 16 anos devido ao trabalho de seu pai na aplicação da lei.

Ele jogou basquete universitário no Allen Hanco*ck Community College, na Stephen F. Austin State University e na University of California, Riverside. Enquanto estava na UC Riverside, ele também correu, qualificando-se para as finais do campeonato nacional da NCAA de salto em altura em 1996.

Mas o caminho da faculdade sempre foi seu cartão de visita e Robinson ingressou na ELAC em 2019.

“Sou muito teimoso”, disse Robinson.

“Fui teimoso como jogador e sou teimoso como treinador, e fui quando quis quando comecei, quando terminei de jogar. Eu comprei, tipo, ‘Eu quero treinar a faculdade’”.

E nesta temporada ele inicia sua própria jornada de treinador principal como chefe do MiraCosta College, no condado de San Diego.

“É um circo para fazer os caras praticarem”, disse ele.

“As crianças sentem falta por certos motivos…. quando eles voltam, você quer ser duro com eles, mas eu só dou um abraço neles porque eles voltam pela academia, porque, quer dizer, quem sabe o que estava acontecendo.”

Ele também dá crédito a um ex-jogador de basquete da Leavenworth High, Larry Dougherty, por lhe dar impulso.

“Se eu o vir hoje, agradecerei. Ele nem sabe o impacto que causou em mim. Quando criança, pensei: ‘Eu quero ser isso'”, disse ele.

O basquete levou o treinador Rob a estar em todo o mundo e o Last Chance U permitiu que ele se conectasse com entusiastas do basquete em todo o mundo. Mas ele chama Leavenworth e Kansas City de casa.

“Leavenworth me preparou para o basquete e serei eternamente grato por estar naquela cidade e fazer parte dela. Estou pronto para voltar para casa, estar com minha família em algum momento e trazer tudo o que puder em termos de basquete para aquela área”, disse Robinson.

“Quero causar um impacto onde cresci e ainda não consegui, e sou teimoso, e farei isso antes de morrer. Vou causar um impacto no basquete na comunidade de Leavenworth e Kansas City.”
